Dental Trends; where holistic meets technology

Trends

There’s been a movement to a more innovative style of dentistry, where technological advances partner with holistic dental theories. New approaches such as using technologies for computer-aided fabrication, image analysis, and 3D printing improve the standard of care, precision, and efficiency in dentistry.

We’ve been exploring both trends, are here’s what we think….

Holistic Dentistry

According to the International Association of Biological Dentistry and Medicine, holistic and biological dentistry refers to a treatment philosophy where your dentist will consider the effect of using dental materials on your entire body and only use safe, nature-based and biological materials for your treatment. The supporters of holistic dentistry claim that by using natural materials, the adverse effects associated with dental treatment can be eliminated.

For example, holistic dentists undergo additional training in complementary medicine to combine the principles of mainstream dentistry with a holistic approach – with the core idea being to improve the patient’s overall oral and physical health.

As people start to explore the source of what they are using, the natural aspect begins to hold a greater appeal.

Dental Technology Advancements

The irony here means there’s a shift to the latest technological advances, but that’s all good too. We are firm believers in balance; and where there’s a safe and authentic route via science, we are all for it!

The latest technology allows for the creation of customized dental implants, crowns, and aligners with unprecedented precision. 3D printing reduces production time and costs, making cosmetic dentistry more accessible to a wider audience. Dental labs can now produce detailed models of a patient’s teeth, enabling dentists to plan treatments with greater accuracy. This level of customization ensures that patients receive personalized care that meets their unique needs.

The trend towards minimally invasive procedures will continue to grow as patients seek less painful and costly alternatives to traditional cosmetic dental treatments. By using advanced technologies and techniques, dentists can now achieve the same results with minimal discomfort and downtime. This trend aligns with the increasing focus on overall health and wellness (thus the partnership with holistic dentistry is key), as patients prioritize preserving their natural teeth.

Natural Cosmetic Dentistry

In the past, some patients have been hesitant about cosmetic dentistry due to fear of an unnatural-looking result (Dare we quote ‘Turkey teeth!) However, advancements in materials and techniques are making it possible for dentists to create more natural-looking smiles. For veneers, the use of porcelain or composite material that mimics the appearance of real teeth is becoming increasingly popular. Additionally, advanced digital imaging technology allows dentists to visualize and design a patient’s new smile before any treatment is even started, ensuring a more precise and realistic result.
